Can You Guess The Fairy Tale?

19 December 2019 (by Katherine Gillard (kgillard))

All literacy groups did a fantastic job of retelling part of a fairy tale through dance!

All literacy groups were set the challenge to retell part of a famous fairy tale through movement. First we familiarised ourselves with the story- creating and retelling the fairy tale using a story map. We then zoomed into one part of the story and as a class conjured up lots more words and phrases which captured the mood and setting. Then we had a think about an appropriate piece of music to use to capture the mood and to support describing the setting for the audience.

We used some of our favourite Mathew Bourne warm up activities from our work with New Adventures to get our creative minds ready! Then we were ready to think about how to capture a range of events and feelings through movement. We began to bring the words and phrases we had annotated on our story map to life-we became choreographers!

Can you also spot.....

a wolf's face formed on the ground?

iron gates opening up to let you into the castle?

a beautiful flower waiting to be picked?

a giant beast snarling at you?
