Nursery Kente Quilt display20 October 2025 (by Ana Espinosa (aespinosa)) |
In celebration of Black History Month, our Nursery children explored African art and design through the study of traditional Kente cloths from Ghana. We discussed how Kente fabrics are made up of vibrant patterns and geometric shapes, often used to represent joy, community, and pride.
After looking at photos of Kente patterns, the children chose from a selection of brightly coloured paper shapes (triangles, squares, circles, etc.) and created their own designs on paper. They enjoyed arranging and gluing the shapes to make their own repeated patterns, discovering how colours and shapes can tell a story. It was a joyful and hands-on way to celebrate African culture through art.
