Today, as part of National Numeracy Day and their Geography topic 'Trade and the Economy', Year 6 went to the 7th floor boardroom of UBS to take part in the "Chocolate Exchange"! In teams, they decided whether to buy or sell their crates of chocolate to the bank over a 5 day period, based on whether they predicted the price to go up or down after a newsflash (such as an extreme weather event affecting sugar cane production). We had some ruthless, risk-taking teams and some more cautious teams, but we all learned lots about supply and demand, and made several links back to our Geography unit on 'Trade and the Economy'. We even thought about the impact climate change might have on the future value of chocolate. Well done Year 6!
