Have you ever listened to a tree?

22 May 2024 (by Sarah Blaikie (sblaikie))

Eariler today the Year 3's took part in an exciting workshop with The Garden Classroom, to follow on from our learning about climate change and Earth's warming atmosphere.

We huddled in a small forest area to shade from the rain, but this was an excellent spot for investigating the many types of trees around us as we learned what an important role they play for life on Earth. We listened to trees, felt them, but also looked at photographs of extreme weather events (such as droughts and floods) and thought about how trees could be connected to these things. We realised that in cutting trees down, at a very fast rate, we are contributing to increases in extreme weather events for many reasons.

We were excited to learn about technologies that are being used in cities like London to try and change this, and felt hopeful about their future. Technologies like drones that can plant trees, and edible garden walls, and even rooftop beekeeping, are all playing a part in restoring lost nature.
