Scientists dissecting plants

14 May 2024 (by Sarah Blaikie (sblaikie))

As part of our learning about 'Plants' in Year 3, we all spent an afternoon carefully peeling apart some very large and brightly coloured tulips. It really helped us to see the important parts of a flower up close and in detail, to better understand how they reproduce and even how birds and insects can help this to happen.

Our teacher assisted us in splitting apart the female part of the flower (the pistil) to see with it looks like inside. Some of the male parts of the flower, such as the anthers, were so heavy with pollen that we could see it dusting our tables and hands!
