Y5 produced beautiful clay sculptures to demonstrate their history knowledge.
Year 5 have been enjoying their History topic 'The Kingdom of Benin' over the past few weeks. Their pupil voice feedback showed that one of their favourite lessons was when they imagined that they had been instructed, as part of the Guild of Craftsmen, to make a plaque for the Oba’s (the ruler of the kingdom) palace. Symbolism was very important in the Kingdom of Benin’s artwork and the children had to think carefully about what images to represent on their plaque to represent power and beliefs. During this lesson, Year 5 also applied their knowledge of using clay to create effective sculptures (knowledge they had been taught in Year 4's art topics).
