Remote Learning Information

4 January 2021 (by Max Lawson (mlawson))

Please see below for further information about our distance learning plans during the current school closure.

Information for Parents and Carers

Distance Learning

Distance learning will be available for each year group. This will vary according to the year group to ensure it is age-appropriate and meets the needs of the pupils. It will include things such as:

- Daily online sessions for a range of subjects areas, via google classrooms (all pupils have been given their own passwords). This will include recorded teaching inputs and activities to complete,

- ‘Live’ Story reading sessions,

- A ‘live’ weekly assembly.

Year groups will also be setting additional activities to complete throughout the week and signposting you to additional resources to support your child’s learning at home. All pupils will also receive a ‘catch-up’ phone call once a week from a member of staff.

We encourage all pupils to complete their distance learning online however, paper packs of the online work and resources such as lined paper workbooks etc. to complete specific tasks will be available to collect on Tuesday 5th January and Monday 11th January between 9am and 10am from OUTSIDE the main school entrance. Please observe social distancing rules when collecting any resources.

Additional information for specific year groups will be emailed to your year group email address so please check this regularly. If you have any questions, then please email to the relevant year group email e.g. yearone@londonfields.hackney.sch.uk, yeartwo@londonfields.hackney.sch.uk etc. and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Teaching staff will feedback to pupils each week with a Year Group newsletter. Please do send in additional projects and photos of activities completed to your year group email address as these will also feature in the newsletter alongside examples of work completed online.

We are all really sad that we can’t all be together at the start of the term. Fingers crossed we will get to see you all soon. In the meantime, each year group has completed a short video to say Happy New Year, please check these out on the London Fields website!

Free School Meals

The government has not announced any more voucher schemes so we will be starting the process to create weekly hampers of food products for families usually in receipt of FSM. If you think your status has changed and you are now entitled to this please contact the school office via email or phone from Tuesday with the details and they will help you. All those previously entitled will automatically receive communications about hampers and when they will be available. Registering for FSM helps the school so even if you don’t want the food or technological help you are entitled to, please do register. Families who currently have ‘No recourse to Public funds’ are also able to let us know and we will provide food.

Places for vulnerable children and those with ECHPs

Places will not be automatically offered as each individual child will need a risk assessment in line with guidance on social distancing, capacity, details of the ECHP so we can keep the children and staff as safe as possible. As you can imagine we have a lot to get organised in a very short period of time so please bear with us and keep reading the communications.

Children of Critical workers

In line with government advice, we will be providing childcare for children of frontline workers who would otherwise be unable to perform their much needed services during this time. We will only consider requests where both parents are key workers or single parent families. We have sent out request forms already and you will be informed if you have received a place by 3pm on Monday. Please be aware that each case will be assessed on specific need and we ask that you do only request this service if really necessary. Children who come in for this service will be supervised by staff in mixed aged groups accessing the home learning that the rest of their class are engaging in.

Communications

We will email and send texts to parents when necessary and expect that to be more often than usual. Please make sure you contact details are up to date as our admin team will be at full stretch and do not have time to call everyone to check you are receiving messages. The website for each school will be updated with relevant letters and information as soon as it is sent out. If you are not sure about any thing please check there.

Parents and Carers Evening appointments

From the week commencing 11th January, all families will be offered a 10 minute phone call slot with their child’s class teacher. This will provide an opportunity to discuss their child’s progress over the Autumn term and also how best to help them at home. You will be contacted about how to book a slot over the next couple of days. Please note that we will have to be quite strict regarding timings on these calls in order to speak to all and manage workload.

Technology

We know it can be a struggle managing home learning where there are several children with only one device so we are trying to timetable learning so families with more than one child can use the laptop at different times to access the teaching. We have limited numbers of devices to send home but please let the school office know if you currently have no device for your child to access home learning on.
