Art in Year 3!22 October 2020 (by Lizzie Bulley (lbulley)) |
Year 3 study abstract artists during Art Week.
During Art week in Year 3, we were inspired by abstract artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Alma Thomas, Sonia Delaunay, Frank Bowling, Jackson Pollock and Piet Mondrian. We focused on the 3 big ideas; 'Mastering practical skills', 'Developing ideas' and 'Taking inspiration from the greats'.
We created ‘action paintings’ inspired by Jackson Pollock. We used alternative methods to brush strokes and instead dripped and splashed paint to represent emotions.
We then created mosaic paintings using tessellation, inspired by Alma Thomas. In these paintings we focused on our choice of colour to represent feelings and emotions.
For our final piece we took inspiration from all of the artists above, but mainly Kandinsky. Here we created mixed media collages in which we thought carefully about our use of shapes, lines and colours to represent feelings and emotions. The techniques we used were overlapping and tessellation.
To end our amazing art week, we presented our collages to the class and our teachers in an afternoon Gallery Opening.
