Year Two
Counting coins in Year 2
We are very excited to be learning all about money in Year 2! We started the topic today exploring the difference between copper and silver coins. We discovered we can use our skip-counting skills to find the total value of a number of coins. We had to pay special attention to each coin to make sure we knew how much each was worth.
We can't wait to learn about pound coins and notes in the lessons to come this week!
Year 2 have got the moves!
Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed this term's Dance lessons in PE. The children have loved making different shapes with their bodies and travelling at different speeds and heights. They choreographed different motifs for a circus-themed routine and learnt a rainforest routine which they performed in unison.
Year 2 PSHE: What is bullying?
This half term, our big question in PSHE was 'What is bullying?' The children learnt what bullying is - a deliberately hurtful behaviour which is repeated more than once - and how it can take be verbal, physical and/ or online. The children were given scenarios to sort which involved either bullying or behaviours that were unkind. They remembered that bullying happens again and again whereas unkind behaviours happen once. They also thought about how to help someone who is being bullied and were reminded that adults are there to help.
Understanding Geometry in Year 2
This week Year 2 learnt that 2D shapes can be joined together to make 3D shapes! We identified that a cuboid is made up of rectangular and square faces. We particularly enjoyed folding our own 3D shapes out of paper. We predicted beforehand what shape we were going to construct based on the faces our net had.
World Book Day in Year 2
Year 2 had a fantastic World Book Day! We loved working out who each other had come to school dressed as, and one of us dressed up as a huge book they had written themselves!
Flower Portraits in Year 2
This week in our topic, 'The Beauty of Flowers' Year 2 have been discovering artists who are inspired by flowers. They have explored the work of Jutine Blakeney and used real flowers to create their own floral portraits. It was a creative and enjoyable afternoon, with the children observing closely and experimenting with colour and position. We hope you loved seeing what they created!
