Understanding the relationship between consecutive numbers in Reception
This half term, Reception children have been developing their understanding of number composition and the ‘one more than/one less than’ relationship between consecutive numbers. The children have been learning that each number is one more or one less than the number before it. We use staircase patterns to help children see that each number is made by adding one more to the previous number and that consecutive numbers are linked.
To challenge their learning, the children took part in a timed activity where they built a number staircase to show their understanding of number order and relationships. They demonstrated fantastic mathematical thinking, completing the challenge in just a few minutes!
Reception children's curiosity about the world around them.
It was a lovely day of discoveries at Forest School today. The children are beginning to notice small changes in their surroundings and show great enjoyment in observing nature. They were excited to spot mushrooms growing on tree trunks, loved it when a solitary lady bird came to say hello, and used natural resources to support their play.
First Encounter with snowdrops at Forest School!
During Forest School last week a few chidlren discovered snowdrops. They children made sure eveyrone walked aorund them and nobody stepped on them. It was lovely to see how caring they are towards nature.
The children discussed all the changes they whitness in our Forest School site so far: from green trees, to leaves changing colour, to bare trees and now to seeing signs of Spring and the beautiful snowdrops growing. What a fantatsic way to experience the seasons.
