Year Three
A trip to the Coast!
Year 3 became young geographers today as we ventured all the way to Shoeburyness for a day at the beach to complete some fieldwork for our Geography topic "The Coast". As well as spotting human and physical features, we sketched sea defences, and made a field sketch of a bird's eye view of the beach complete with a key.
Year 3 Athletes!
This term we have been developing our practical skills in running, jumping and throwing to get better at Athletics. We have been practising our sprinting technique, working as a team during relay races, and perfecting an even stride while leaping over hurdles. We think we will be more than ready for Sports Day next term!
Year 3 become Digital Artists!
We have been learning about artists and artworks depicting people in their leisure during our Art topic this week. Inspired by artist such as L.S. Lowry, Prince Gysai and Georges Seurat, we created our own artworks using iPads and the app PicMonkey. This allowed us to take and edit multiple pictures of one person playing or relaxing and position them in the same location. We developed our practical skills by using the eraser tool to remove the backgrounds of two different poses and add them to a final picture, matching them to the background. The results were fantastic!
Sunny Science in Hyde Park
Year 3 travelled to Hyde Park today to take part in a fantastic workshop all about flowers and plants as part of our Science topic. We were able to show off our learning this week about pollination, and using magnifying glasses we observed the different parts of flowers and blossoms. We created memory cards using natural material we found on the ground, and made a newspaper pot to plant a seed in which we can grow at home.
Future bag designers in Year 3!
This week in Design and Technology, we have been designing, making and evaluating tote bags. We developed our technical and practical knowledge by learning new stitches to join seams, and experimenting with different decorative techniques including using fabric paint, applique and stitching. After looking at existing products and creating a design criteria, we set to work designing and making our own creations.
A Stormy Symphony in Year 3!
This term we have been learning about Beethoven's Sixth Symphony (Pastoral). Inspired by the fourth movement, we learned how to create a motif to represent different parts of a storm, first using body percussion, before moving onto percussion instruments. We then improved our knowledge of process by layering our motifs to create a composition, and took turns to conduct our mini orchestra using a graphic score.
