Year Five
Cultural Traditions in Art!
This term in Art, we explored our theme 'Cultural Tradition's in Art'. We looked at a variety of Folk Art and were very much inspired by Richard Kimbo, who we learned was an oustanding folk artist from Kenya. Using our inspiration from exploring Kimbo's batiks, we developed our knowledge on Media and Materials, so that we get better at Mastering Practical Skills! We did so by using mixed textures and combined visual and tactile qualities to create an interesting collage inspired by Kimbo.
Y5 Astronomers!
Tech for Gen AI
Year 4, 5 and 6 were very lucky to have a fascinating insight into the technology behind generative AI and what that might mean for careers in the future and the jobs that the children could choose to do.
We had an assembly discussing what AI was and how it has developed before having some career discussions in class where we got to talk to some UBS employees about how they use and create AI in their work. We got to quiz them about how they had chosen their career and what educational goals they had accomplished in order to work in AI as well as which skills they felt were the most useful in their jobs. We wondered which of us will be developing and running AI in 20 years time and what jobs there might be that we don't even know about yet?!
World Book Day in Loach Class
For World Book Day, we completed an oracy activity called “The Ultimate Character Champion Battle”. We each prepared a short character profile , identifying our character’s strengths and weaknesses. We practised presenting our character., talking to the wall. Then, we went into groups of three, two pupils battled and the third listened carefully and judged the battle. We kept on battling until we had reached two winners to decide the Ultimate Character Champion. We used our presentational skills as well as listening and responding, building and summarising.
Mikaela Loach visits for a book reading
Mikaela Loach is a climate activist for whom one of our Year 5 classes is named. Today she came in to visit Loach class to read her new children's book 'Climate is Just the Start'. Her book is all about the things that children can do to help affect change both now and in the future. She also visited the rest of year 5 and year 6 to do a book reading and to answer questions both about herself and what it takes to write a book. We left feeling so inspired and we can't wait to read the signed copies of her book that she left for us! Thank you Mikaela!
