Manners

Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot.

Clarance Thomas

At London Fields we believe that it is important to teach children good manners, as not only are they important life skills but they play a fundamental role in developing empathy and emotional vocabulary. They are key to developing self-respect, self-control, pride and confidence. They help us to build positive relationships and ultimately contribute to happy and successful lives.

Each week the whole school will focus on the behaviour we wish to explicitly teach and foster. Not only will we be practising the language of good manners, but also we will be teaching body language, eye contact, tone of voice etc. The children will have time in class to learn how to master these skills and throughout the week this focus will have a high profile across the school. Please watch out for regular updates in the newsletter and on the class blogs.

Obviously, we know that we are most effective when the work we do in school is reinforced at home. Please take some time to check the focus of the week and help your child by noticing and praising them for using the desired behaviour at home.

Thank you.
