School Closure January 2021

Information for Parents and Carers

Please see below for information about the distance learning the school would offer in the event of school closure.

Distance Learning

Distance learning will be available for each year group. This will vary according to the year group to ensure it is age-appropriate and meets the needs of the pupils. It will include things such as:

  • Daily online sessions for a range of subjects areas, via Google Classrooms (all pupils have been given their own passwords). This will include recorded teaching inputs and activities to complete,
  • ‘Live’ Story reading sessions, via Google Meets,
  • A ‘live’ weekly assembly, via Google Meets.

Year groups will also be setting additional activities to complete throughout the week and signposting you to additional resources to support learning at home. All pupils will also receive a ‘catch-up’ phone call once a week from a member of staff.

Google Classrooms

We encourage all pupils to complete their distance learning online, via the Google Classroom platform. This is an interactive tool where children can view and submit work in their own class and also interact with their teachers. Further information about accessing Google Classroom can be found by clicking here.

If your child has forgotten or lost their Google Classroom log in, please contact your year group team via their year group email address (e.g.  yearone@londonfields.hackney.sch.uk, yeartwo@londonfields.hackney.sch.uk etc...) and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Additional information for specific year groups will be emailed from these addresses.

Teaching staff will feedback to pupils each week with a Year Group newsletter. Please do send in additional projects and photos of activities completed to your year group email address as these will also feature in the newsletter alongside examples of work completed online.

How much should my child do each day?

In line with government guidance, depending on the age of your child, we aim to offer a minimum of 3-4 hours of provision per school day.. Each week we send out a suggested timetable for each year group which gives information about the lessons that we will upload as part of our main distance learning offer. However, this is just a guide. We understand that every household is different, and we aim to make our remote learning offer engaging, supportive and interactive, but also flexible to fit around busy and differing family schedules.

There are some activities that we would recommend that children do each and every school day, such as reading. See below for a daily routine checklist that we would highly recommend pupils complete everyday.

Technology

We know it can be a struggle managing home learning where there are several children with only one device so we will always try to timetable learning so families with more than one child can use the laptop at different times to access the teaching. We have limited numbers of devices to send home but please let the school office know if you currently have no device for your child to access home learning on.

We are all really sad that we can’t all be together at the start of the term. Fingers crossed we will get to see you all soon. In the meantime, each year group has completed a short video to say Happy New Year, please check these out below:
