St Paul's Organ Project
Tom Dagget from St Paul's Cathedral came to London Fields for a very noisy workshop about organs!
Years 4, 5 and 6 all took part in a workshop learning about how an organ sounds and is played. Tom told us that the Ancient Greeks had a part to play in the manufacture of modern organs through their creation of metal pipes which could play a note by having air blown through them. The organ (especially delivered to school for this occasion!) was an electric organ which had the sound of the different sound families recorded. We learnt that an organ has 4 different sound families, had a go at playing each different one and even did some composing ourselves.
Year 6 will be visiting St Paul's Cathedral in a couple of weeks for a follow up workshop, so watch this space!
