  • Year One get digital!

    Year One spent art week discovering how to take the perfect portrait using a digital camera. After studying some amazing portrait paintings and photographs from the past, they planned their own portrait photo and directed each other to ensure the perfect shot!

  • A surprise visit from Ernest Shackleton!

    A time machine brought Ernest Shackleton to Year One this afternoon to tell children all about his explorations.  Children learnt about his ship,  Endurance, the 28 sailors and scientists that went with him, including a ship cat called Mrs Chippy!  The children learnt how Ernest Shackleton's determination meant that even when faced with disaster, he ensured all his men returned safely to England.

  • Books and Breakfast!

    Children in Year 1 and 2 enjoyed breakfast with their parents/carers whilst also celebrating a love of reading.  Children made festive bookmarks, read stories and even wrote and illustrated their own books!  Thank you to Betty's mum for helping and to Mr Friel for organising such a fantastic event.  We look forward to the next one!

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

    We had a very special workshop in Chapman Class today.  Heidi's mum taught us all about the difference between recycling, reusing and reducing materials.  We learnt a lot about plastics and how it is really important to reduce the amount of plastic that we use.  Heidi's mum also showed us a plastic brick which we are hoping we can make too.  Thank you for coming in Heidi's mum!

  • Rabbits visit Year 1!

    Year 1 had a visit from some furry friends this week! To support our science unit about animals children have met turtles, tadpoles, hamsters and rabbits this term. They drew careful observational drawings of the rabbits as well as writing down the features that make mammals unique.

  • Chapman Class visit the National Portrait Gallery

    Year One have been learning about 'Significant People' in History.  Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole are two nurses that they have learnt about in Topic Lessons.  At the National Portrait Gallery we got to see portrait paintings of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and learnt a bit more about them.
